Known for its agility, the Mako is faster and stronger than the Reef Shark. Can take on more aggressive prey.

— In-game description

The Mako Shark is the second playable shark unlocked in Hungry Shark Evolution. Known for its speed, the Mako Shark can outmaneuver many of its predators and prey.

Appearance[]

The Mako Shark has a streamlined body, large pectoral fins, dark blue back and white underside.

Description[]

The Mako Shark is the more powerful upgrade from the Reef Shark. Its maximum depth is 150 meters and maximum length is 4.6 meters. Its hunting grounds include shallow waters and twilight zones, similar to the real-life Shortfin Mako Shark. In Hungry Shark Evolution, the Mako Shark is only faster than the Reef Shark and cannot jump long distances like its real counterpart. It has adequate swimming to catch prey against currents. Unlocking 5000 points triggers Gold Rush mode. A weakness is its small mouth, even smaller than the Reef Shark. This allows eating only one or two fish at a time. The Mako Shark is the second weakest shark in the game, ahead of only the Reef Shark. You can also purchase the Baby Mako Shark.

Tips[]

  • Hunt shoals of fish for lots of points to trigger Gold Rush quickly. Their numbers provide high rewards.
  • Approach seals cautiously, as the Mako Shark's small mouth makes it easy to take damage if biting head-on. Only attack seals when their attention is elsewhere. Eating a seal with 8x multiplier triggers an automatic Gold Rush.
  • Avoid groups of rays, as their numbers can easily overwhelm the Mako Shark and deal serious damage. Reactance is key to survival.
  • Only chase sailfish and tuna if they are within reach, as they are much faster swimmers. Quick reaction time is needed to catch them.
  • If health is low, high-reward prey like blobfish and seal pups can save a run. But take care and follow the fish shoal advice, as their numbers provide safety in numbers.

Goals[]

Like all sharks in the game, the Mako Shark has a set of individual goals. For all sharks, its Extra Goal is unlocked by completing all prior goals. The list of goals and their respective rewards is as follows:

Name Objective Reward
Caught A Bite Eat 3 fishermen 150 Coins
Diet Swim Swim 200 meters without eating 150 Coins
In Flight Meal Eat 5 flying pelicans 250 Coins
Cannibal Eat 5 enemy sharks 350 Coins
Survival Ace Survive for 6 minutes 250 Coins
Fast Food Eat 3 sailfish 250 Coins
Mine Sweeper Clear 5 mines 200 Coins
1 Sunken Object Find 1 sunken object 200 Coins
Extra Goal 2 Score over 50,000 points! 750 Coins

Diet[]

Reminder that this list includes the Mako Shark's natural prey and not prey available to it during Gold Rushes.

Pros & Cons[]

Pros[]

  • Slow health drain rate, making it easier to survive encounters.
  • Capable swimmer with fair speed and bite strength for its size.
  • Low gold rush trigger of only 5,000 points, achieving bonus rounds quickly.
  • Inexpensive purchases and upgrades for new players to progress.
  • Levels up at a fast pace compared to later sharks.

Cons[]

  • Limited natural diet provides less hunting options than larger sharks.
  • Its small mouth can only swallow one or two creatures at a time.
  • Spawns near mine hazards, making early gameplay more dangerous.
  • Has a low maximum health total to work with.
  • Ranks as the second weakest shark overall.
  • Bite range is restricted due to its tiny jaws, even less than the Reef Shark.
